Setting Goals Is Key For Maximum Fitness Performance

You Have To Set Goals If You Expect To See Results

One thing that sets the winners apart from the losers is being able to set the bar high for yourself and then reaching that height. You have to think big and really put everything you've got into making that a reality.

Setting goals for yourself is so important and really can not be expressed enough. If your not shooting and aiming towards a distinct target then your bound to give up eventually.

You might have to set small marks at first, but eventually you will start seeing some results and that is when the bar really starts to climb.

Tips For Setting Your Fitness Goals:

  • Write them down and look at them often. Keeping your intentions fresh in your mind is very important if you hope to achieve them.
  • Visualize finishing the tasks. Seeing yourself accomplish the set tasks will make you work just that little bit harder in order to make it a reality.
  • Celebrate quickly, then start over. Be proud of reaching your objectives and enjoy it for a bit, then set new ones and get right back to work.

I like to set weekly and monthly goals. I find this works best and if you try to set to many then it just gets a little to distracting.

Simple things like making it to the gym five days this week and running five miles will do just fine. Don't over think it or over complicate it, that will just lead to failure and a negative attitude.

Start small and work your way up, especially if your just a beginner. You need to feel that sense of accomplishment in order to start setting bigger and more long term priorities.

Checkout this great video from Chris Powell. It's short and right to the point:

I think he hits it right on the head. You should be striving and working towards something or else it just feels like your running in circles and not going anywhere.

It feels so good to look at my list of goals at the end of the week or month and take my pen and cross them off one by one. That may sound a little childish, but I have to say, it really works as motivation and I highly recommend giving it a try.

Easy and achievable fitness goals to strive for:

  1. Hit the gym five times this week. A simple mission that will hopefully become part of your lifestyle.
  2. Lose five pounds this month. It may not sound like a lot, but it is a healthy weight loss point and very reachable.
  3. Do 90 minutes of cardio this week.  Doesn't matter if it is on a stair master, treadmill, bike, or elliptical, track your time and try to hit that 90 minute mark.
  4. Find a workout partner. If you can find a friend or family member to workout with who really wants to get into shape and make some changes, this will have a HUGE impact on the both of you.

Not to beat a dead horse here, but goals, goals, goals. You will be incredibly surprised by how fulfilling it is to set and achieve the simplest of fitness/weight loss goals.

Go get yourself a new notepad, write down some weekly fitness objectives, and find out just how awesome it is to cross those things off your list.
